Have you ever been head over heels in love? That's what getting to know God is like.
I well remember the morning I gave my life to Jesus Christ. I was responding to His love for me. I must confess that at the time I had a fear of God, not a love for God. First John 4:10 says, "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son. … "

We are not saved because we loved God; we are saved because He first loved us. Some come to Christ out of fear, pain or loss. Regardless how one comes, or why, is not so important. What's important is the fact that one comes to Jesus.
It's after getting to know Him that our love relationship develops. With this love comes growth and maturity. Had our Lord not started the process of pursuit, we would be forever lost in sin and condemnation.
I well remember the first time I really noticed my wife Ruth. We were in the same class at Bible College. For weeks I saw her but never really took notice. But when I did, the pursuit was on! I fell head-over-heels in love and, thank God, she reciprocated. Had she not, I would have been in a mess. It must really hurt the heart of our heavenly Father to love so many, while so few respond to His grace, mercy and love. Because Ruth responded to me, nearly 34 years of wonderful marriage and relationship have been ours. It has been a tremendous adventure.
Our Lord wants you to know Him; to know His love and friendship. The good news is this: He is only a prayer away! Romans 10:13 says, "For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." If you haven't done so yet, ask Jesus into your heart. Let Him become the First Love of your life, and all else will then find proper order.
