Alpha National Initiative 2005
"If Canada is going to be transformed, it will be when God comes to town!" And that is exactly what Alpha Canada is inviting God to do!.

This summer's Alpha Invitation is all about inviting God to change hearts. Alpha teams across Canada will be encouraged to participate in focused prayer activities in support of fall courses. The Alpha Prayer Blitz!

The campaigns have resulted in more and younger guests, many with little or no church background.

For the past two summers churches in Canada have sent "An Invitation to the Nation" through a combination of national billboard advertising, lawn signs, church banners, community events and personal invitations. The campaigns have resulted in more and younger guests, many with little or no church background.

Alpha's National Initiative 2005 includes some of the previous elements, but the main focus this year is Prayer. "We are asking God to do what only He can do—to change hearts," says Sally Start, Alpha Canada's National Director. "We are asking God to change our hearts so we are bolder in inviting our friends, and to soften their hearts so they respond to our invitations and seek God for themselves. We long to see even more people in Canada come into a relationship with Jesus."

A three minute video to publicize this year's initiative and to inspire churches to pray with renewed focus has been filmed in conjunction with NOW TV. A shorter version will be distributed as a public service announcement to TV stations across the country.

"Alpha's national initiative this year is all about admitting we can't do it ourselves. If Canada is going to be transformed, it will be when God comes to town!" says Lyndell Enns, Alpha's Director of Communications. "Only His power is sufficient to change hearts."

Churches will again be able to order banners, lawn signs and car stickers, and to continue to promote public awareness of Alpha through community events and local purchase of billboard and transit shelter advertisements.

However, the main thrust of the National Initiative 2005 will be an admission of complete dependence on God. Ideas to initiate a variety of exciting prayer activities are included on the Alpha Canada website, www.AlphaCanada.org.

Nicky Gumbel will launch the Prayer Blitz on August 6th at the Alpha Conference in Toronto and is scheduled to appear on 100 Huntley Street the week of August 3rd. The Prayer Blitz will culminate with a nation wide prayer party September 15th just as Alpha courses start again in the fall.
