Sacred Marriage
Gary Thomas will be the keynote speaker at Trinity Western University’s 2009 Smarter Families Canada Conference.

It has been said that, “Love is blind. Marriage is the eye-opener.” While many married couples laugh in jest at the common struggles between the sexes, more and more couples are struggling privately with their vow “till death do us part.” Husbands and wives in churches often suffer in silence not wanting to admit failure or that their passion is all but lost. One thing is certain – navigating the complex gauntlet of marriage is not for weak warriors.

Gary Thomas

ACTS Seminaries of Trinity Western University has announced American author Gary Thomas as keynote speaker at its annual Smarter Families Canada Conference. In his recent best seller Sacred Marriage: What If God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy?, which has grossed over 300,000 copies, Thomas writes, “This is a book that looks at how we can use the challenges, joys, struggles, and celebrations of marriage to draw closer to God and to grow in Christian character.”

Dr. John Auxier, Acting President and Dean for Trinity Western Seminary says, “Gary Thomas is recognized as a rising star in reflecting on the relationship between spiritual wholeness and healthy family life. He will be speaking for more than five hours during the conference, including plenary sessions on "Helping couples see marriage through God's eyes," "Helping couples build a sacred history," and a three hour workshop on Sexuality and Holiness in Marriage, entitled "Sexual Saints."

In addition to Thomas’s presentations the two-day conference will also offer in-depth workshops on, “Building An Affair Resistant Marriage,” “Handle the Heat Without Getting Burned in Your Relationship,” “How to Run Pornography Recovery Groups,” and even a seminar on “Marriage Bootcamps.”

Smarter Families Canada, now in its 7th year, aims to equip lay-leaders, pastors and Christian counsellors with practical tools to help with marriage, parenting and recovery ministries in the local church.

“We hope that Christian couples will hear God's call to improve their marriages and become marriage mentors and coaches to those around them at work, school, and the church, to the glory of God,” says Dr. Auxier.

The Smarter Families Canada Conference takes place May 8 to 9, 2009. Registration information can be found at www.smarterfamiliescanada.ca, or call 604-888-7511 ext 3830.
