School Board Offers Disconcerting Definition of "Homophobia"

This week, see Lorna Dueck's commentary below (Lessons Forgotten) on recent events in the news. She believes our politicians could benefit from some of Apostle Paul's teachings. Also, a disconcerting development—an Ontario school board has developed a paper defining homophobia as a "fear of having intimate relationships with persons of the same sex." A Toronto mother and writer responds (see the article Definitions Make for Self-Discovery).

Here are two books you might want to pick up for summer reading. Especially of interest—God Is Closer than You Think. God wants a deep and intimate relationship with you. That's a wonderfully encouraging message that will bypass your head and speak directly to your heart.

Another book—all the reviews indicate that Ron Sider's, The Scandal of the Evangelical Conscience, is well worth reading. If the facts Sider presents are anywhere close to the truth, the Church is in serious trouble, and it could well be.

Nevertheless, the people in Canada's churches truly have a heart for outreach with creative and God-directed efforts in many communities.

And finally, Phil Callaway has wisdom to offer on the combination of eating lots of donuts while you are aging (see Donuts and Aging). Might not be a good idea!

Be blessed this week, and take some time to enjoy the beginning of summer.

Blessings in Christ,
