Pray for Our Government Leaders

Nothing is impossible to God, especially if His people are in agreement. Do we want to see the people of our city and our country experience the goodness of the Lord? We must pray in unity. Jessie Cooper, in her article, “Renewal and Revival Begin with Prayer,” quotes Francis Frangipane: “It will take the city-wide church to win the city-wide war.”

Do we want to see the government implement good public policies that strengthen society? Let’s pray for God to direct our government leaders and to refresh them in their work. The National House of Prayer in Ottawa is inviting churches to dedicate a portion of their Sunday morning service on June 29 to pray for Canada and for at least one elected governmental leader.

Across Canada many are praying daily asking God to grant our leaders wisdom in their decision making. For everyone who prayed for the Lord’s Prayer to remain in the Ontario Legislature proceedings, there’s good news: “Ontario legislators...agreed to keep the Lord's Prayer, reaffirming the primacy of Christianity in the provincial assembly,” says Charles Lewis in a National Post article.

Also last week, an apology was the centre of attention in Ottawa as Prime Minister Stephen Harper acknowledged the damage done to many Aboriginal Canadians by the residential schools system, reports Canadian Christianity.

And, if you live in Hamilton, Ontario, God is coming to a bus shelter near you. The city reviewed its advertising policy after controversy erupted in January over a decision to pull pro-life ads from bus shelters. The new policy even opens doors to Bus Stop Bible Studies.

We invite you to join The National House of Prayer to pray for our government on June 29.
