We Can Change the Future of Canada

Statistically, as many as 50 percent of Christians don't vote! Yet voting is more than just a God-given privilege (see the article below, Encouraging Canadians to Vote). Through voting we act as salt and light in the world and demonstrate our love for our neighbour (see We Can Change the Future of Canada). Focusing on hope and love of our neighbours first can make a difference! The article Canada Votes: Scandal and Rhetoric or Citizenship and Hope? offers encouragement and some election-related topics to discuss with your neighbours and candidates. Writers present other considerations as well.

The question of how faith relates to politics has made the news. The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada invited political party leaders to share their perspectives (see Faith and Politics: Party Leaders Respond), and their responses made headlines. Watch also for the responses to be reprinted in the Toronto Star.

Even though election-related issues are important these days, we want to highlight the good work the church is doing among us. Read about a pastor who sacrificed everything to launch a ministry in Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside (see Ex-pastor Learns the Rewards of "Being Small"). Read also about the inroads the Gospel is making in Iraq with the message of peace through Christ (see Churches Growing in War-Torn Iraq).

This week, let's pray that God's will be done in Canada, and let's cast our ballots on January 23.
