The "Abomination of Desolation" Found

Consumerism! We have lived in it and with it, but something isn't right in our lives and our society and we're not sure how to grapple with it. Christian publications one after another are commenting on it. "...The problem seems to be that our society pressures us to live by unbiblical values, especially unbiblical economic values," says Ken Badley in an article for Faith Today. What strategies can we use to wean ourselves from loving stuff so much that we miss God's best?

On that note, in reference to the book of Daniel in the Bible, Gareth Brandt, who teaches theology at Columbia Bible College, says he has found the Abomination of Desolation. Can you guess what it is? He says it's a place that sets itself up as an alternative worship location—and it's in his neighbourhood! You might have made the same observation in your neighbourhood!

I Used to Have Money, Now I Have Teens, complains Phil Callaway. Those of us who have kids of any age can identify with that insight, but Callaway goes beyond money issues to offer five biblically based principles that have kept his family thriving and together throughout the teen years.

Here's another way to make family life more satisfying and easier. Sandi Richards had a tough time balancing her career with her family's needs. Making dinner had become a "frazzled scramble," and her effort to put food on the table left her feeling guilty and worthless. Her life changed dramatically when she found an article by a psychologist who claimed that supper was the most stressful part of the day. Her discovery solved not only her own dinnertime problem, but has blessed thousands through her TV program, Fixing Dinner.

We invite you to enjoy these articles, as well as the news stories and other selections below. It may interest you to know that Christian books still dominate the all-time best-sellers' list. Pick one up at your local Christian bookstore (or below on Amazon.ca), and enjoy the summer sun!
