Preparing Students for Life and Ministry

ACTS is not a typical seminary. We are a consortium. And as such, we are made up of four distinct and independently operated seminaries; but as one in Christ, we all pursue a single mission: to develop godly servant leaders who have a love and burden for people.
Though this can be a more difficult way to approach Christian seminary education, we believe it is the best way, and the one to which God has called us. If it wasn’t difficult, everyone would do it.
Since all the seminaries pool their resources together, our students benefit from a wider range of faculty expertise and ministry experiences.

Our programs:
• Certificate in the Art of Theology
• Certificate in Apologetics
• Certificate in Spiritual Formation (in Chinese)
• Diploma in Christian Studies
• Master of Arts in Christian Studies
• Master of Arts in Theological Studies
• Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and Exegesis
• Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy
• Master of Divinity
• Doctor of Ministry
• Master of Theology
• Post-Masters Certificate in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care

Nestled among the Gulf Islands of British Columbia’s west coast, Capernwray Harbour Bible Centre on Thetis Island offers students a unique learning experience.
We give sound, practical Bible teaching focusing on both the Old and New Testament scriptures in which God reveals the indwelling, resurrected Christ as the Christian life. Students gain an experiential knowledge of Christ and how His presence applies practically to daily living.
Through classroom studies, tutorials, dialogue-based small-group studies, and summary journals, students have opportunity to share from the written Word what God is teaching them and how He is working in their lives. Many outreach opportunities in surrounding communities and cities, as well as international, short-term missions trips, are available for students to participate in.
Capernwray Harbour welcomes people of all denominational backgrounds and nationalities. The student body of approximately 100 students join the full-time staff to create a community intent on knowing Jesus Christ as life. The desire of every staff member at Capernwray Harbour is to prepare each student for “full-time Christian service, regardless of occupation.” Want to know and experience more? Join us for a Taste & See Week.

In November 2012, Maclean’s magazine presented a cover feature called “Stop Brainwashing our Kids: How Educators are Hijacking the Classroom to Push Their Own Political Agenda.” The article poses this question: “Protesting pipelines, celebrating polygamy: is the new social justice agenda in class pushing politics at the expense of learning?” The article observes that faculties of education are quite intentionally preparing student teachers to weave social justice throughout the school curriculum – in math and science, language arts and social studies, drama and even physical education.

The unfortunate truth is that the classroom teacher’s (or the government’s) viewpoint, on matters of social justice, may be in conflict with that of the community at large. This attempt to integrate the values of a totally secular, anti-traditional worldview into curriculum-wide activity and practice is troubling to many parents. And what about moral standards? In Ontario we are witnessing how the state is ready to impose its definition of morality on parents and on schools. Curriculum content, particularly in the area of sex education, consistently pushes the boundaries of what is considered acceptable in the broader community.

At Peoples Christian Academy the biblical worldview is foundational to all instruction, and Jesus Christ is at the centre of our mission.

“I cannot say that having a child, working full time and completing a degree was easy but it is amazing how you can find the time if you just manage it better,” said Leslie, a TWU BA in Leadership graduate.
After three years of running TWU degree-completion programs for adults and international students at the Richmond Cultural Centre and Richmond Olympic Oval, TWU Richmond will open its own doors to the public at 5900 Minoru Boulevard, Richmond, in the fall of 2015.
“Without all those amazing instructors and the staff, I would have likely given up so many times,” said Leslie. “Trinity Western and the students that I attended my classes with almost became an extension of my family. I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Trinity and I cannot thank them enough.”
Convenient, relevant, relational, and supportive: These words characterize the unique leadership development program offered at TWU Richmond. It’s a program designed especially for 21st-century leaders seeking a degree at a Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

Academic excellence is the foundation of Tyndale, where faculty are dedicated to research and teaching. The university’s history department has had more peer-reviewed books published per person than most Canadian universities, and a social service professor is a government adviser for gang prevention programs.
At Tyndale, students have the rare opportunity to research with professors at an undergraduate level. Professors engage students in research and encourage them to present the results at conferences in Canada and abroad. Nathan Kalk (BA Psychology 2015) presented his research at the annual American Psychology Association Convention, and Ksenia Choly (BA Philosophy 2015) and Hope Cunningham (BA Philosophy 2015) presented their papers at the George Whalley conference at Queen’s University.
Graduates have gone on to graduate studies and PhDs at prestigious universities, such as the University of Western Ontario, Oxford University and the University of St. Andrews. The academic rigour of Tyndale has, indeed, caught the attention of graduate schools.
“Tyndale is a place of serious scholarship, emphasizing a love for learning, community development and spiritual growth. The tools provided to me by Tyndale Philosophy have allowed me to engage in these discussions with confidence and rigour.” – Luke Teeninga (Tyndale, BA 2013; Ryerson, MA 2015; Oxford, PhD)

“I love the professors at Vanguard. They aren’t just teachers; they really care!” That’s what we consistently hear from our students. We believe that developing innovative spirit-filled leaders happens best in warm, caring relationships. Through worship, discipleship, mentoring and community, we are developing capable practitioners who are taking leadership roles in our nation and around the world. Students build a strong foundation in Bible and theology as they grow in valuable ministry skills expected by churches and other agencies today. At the same time they develop friendships and personal skills that last a lifetime.
We specialize in five real-world areas, offering certificates, diplomas and degrees in youth ministry, missions, worship, pastoral ministry and children’s ministry. Organizations choose Vanguard graduates because they know that they can “do the job.” Students choose us because we provide an affordable education that equips them to make a difference.
Come, see what we’re talking about. Our tours will give you the opportunity to see what God is doing at Vanguard College. If you live outside Edmonton, be sure to inquire about tour travel vouchers.
