Conviction of Sin Needed for Canada
Is our tolerance for sin reaping loss of religious freedom and judgement-like events in our land?

I have been feeling for some time that what Canada needs now is a conviction of sin by the Holy Spirit to return to the land.

"Where are we missing it, Lord, and what is wrong in the Church?"

A few days ago I was enquiring of the Lord as to why the Church across the land seems to be relatively weak and appears to be losing ground on many fronts. As well there seems to be a preponderance of judgement-like events coming to the land like SARS, Mad Cow, the Ontario blackout, and B.C. wild fires. (There are still many good things happening across the nation and many are being saved and snatched from the fire. However, overall we seem to be losing the war.) I kept asking the question, "Where are we missing it, Lord, and what is wrong in the Church?"

After some time I felt the Lord say that the problem is that we don't hate sin anymore, but tolerate it. The Church at large seems to tolerate the sexual sins on the Internet, the immorality on TV and in the media, and until recently the gay situation and other sins across the land with few, if any, voices speaking against them and standing for righteousness. The Church has somewhat sacrificed righteousness for peace and appears to be making alliances with the enemy with regard to sin so as not to "rock the boat." The Church does not want to stand up against sin and be called homophobic, old-fashioned, bigoted or intolerant. As a result this has greatly weakened the Church.

It's like the story of David and Goliath—the Church does not want to stand up to the Goliath of sin across the nation, so it stays somewhat paralyzed with the enemy taunting it continually.

The Church needs to stand up and speak up for righteousness and hate sin the way God hates sin—with a passion. There are many scriptures which admonish us to hate evil. Romans 12:9 states, "Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Proverbs 8:13 says, " … to fear the Lord is to hate evil." Psalm 97:10 says, " … let those who love the Lord hate evil." We need to be like Phinehas in Numbers 25 who was zealous for the honour of His God and dealt with unrighteousness, and so stopped the plague.

I feel that as the Church begins to hate sin—hate sin with a passion—and to speak up for righteousness, that a conviction of sin by the Holy Spirit will come upon this land and He will deal with the sinful issues now in Canada. ("Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty" Zechariah 4:6.)

I feel that the first thing we need to do as the Church across Canada is to pray for a deep hatred of sin and a great love for righteousness. Lord, teach me to hate sin and the things you hate, and to love righteousness and the things you love.
