Changing of the Guard at Ottawa's Prestigious Laurentian Leadership Centre
Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham, who has been 17 years with the EFC, has accepted a prestigious appointment with Trinity Western University in Ottawa.

Minutes away from Parliament Hill stands a historic mansion, once home to business baron J. R. Booth, but today, home to up to 23 Trinity Western University students enrolled in the university's Laurentian Leadership Centre (LLC). This unique program offers students unequivocal educational and life experience as they live, study and intern in Ottawa.

Dr. Dennis Jameson, Academic Vice President of Trinity Western University, is pleased to announce Janet Epp Buckingham L.L.B, LL.D., as Director of The Laurentian Leadership Centre.

Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham brings a wealth of experience and vision to the position. With numerous years in politics working on The Hill, Janet has also participated in the UN Commission on Human Rights upholding religious freedom as a fundamental human right and appeared before numerous parliamentary committees in Ottawa. She will be finishing up her role as general legal counsel to the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada before taking on this significant endeavor. Says Buckingham, "I am looking forward to sharing my 17 years experience in the public square with the next generation of evangelical Christian leaders."

John Dyck, Academic Liaison for the LLC, comments, "The appointment of Janet Epp Buckingham as Director recognizes her gifts and achievements in both the public and academic worlds. Janet's appointment comes at a time when the LLC had achieved strong recognition in the Ottawa political arena and greater efforts are needed to develop contacts we already have with the university communities in Ottawa. Janet is well qualified to enhance the reputation of the LLC and Trinity Western University on both fronts as a nonpartisan academic institution."

British Columbia resident and third year student Joshua Peters has found the LLC to be the key to his future. In his first month in Ottawa, Peters has already secured an internship in the Prime Minister's Office. Says Peters, "The Laurentian Leadership Centre is a phenomenal opportunity to see the heart of Canada in Ottawa and experience the real world of politics. I can see that a career in politics could actually be a possibility."

Buckingham wants to continue the success that the centre has had in getting student leaders internships in government, business, communications and journalism.

She lives in Ottawa with her husband and two teenage children.
