All Things Can Work for Good

God is using one person's experience with cancer to heal the broken-hearted and set the captives free.

"I want to win souls and help AIDs and cancer victims!" Nicole Brock sincerely told the Lord when He asked her to declare the desire of her heart during an evangelism trip in Bermuda. Little did she realize that even as she spoke, cancer was growing in her digestive system.

In faith she told the doctors she would be completely healed …

Nicole Brock started full-time ministry 18 years ago. The Lord put Isaiah 61:1-5 on her heart, "To heal the broken-hearted and set the captives free … to bring restoration and healing to a dying world."

As an evangelist, Nicole has traveled extensively to bring the Good News about the Lord Jesus Christ. Her heartfelt desire is to see multitudes come to the saving knowledge of Jesus; to see the body of Christ in unity of spirit; and to see the sick and broken-hearted healed.

First, God gave Nicole and her husband, Ian, a mandate to pioneer two churches, one in Burlington, Ontario and one in Montreal. Then, approximately six years ago, He released them to travel worldwide to bring the uncompromising Word of God through preaching, teaching, seminars and healing clinics. They have ministered in the United States, Costa Rica, Bermuda, India and The Netherlands.

But in October 2001, on returning from her Bermuda trip, Nicole was diagnosed with cancer.

Nicole, normally a very healthy person, realized something was wrong in her body so she went for a check up. She was shocked when she heard she had cancer of the rectum.

That Sunday, instead of going to church, Nicole spent the morning seeking the face of God. She prayed and cried out to God, "Why?"

She froze when she heard God reply, "Nicole. Nicole. It's not about you. It's all about My being glorified." He reminded her of John 9:1-4. The disciples asked Jesus why the man was born blind. Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, but he was born blind in order that the workings of God should be manifested in him."

Then Nicole had peace. "I knew this was the road I had to travel."

She spent the next month entirely focused on God's Word. By the time of the operation on November 28, 200l, exactly one month after the diagnosis, and exactly one year after Nicole's own mother had died of cancer, Nicole was full of faith for healing. She was surprised that the cancer was actually still in her body.

The doctors told her they might have to remove the entire rectum which would mean a colostomy, most likely for life. In faith she told the doctors she would be completely healed and the colostomy would be temporary. The doctors attributed Nicole's statements to be those of a woman in denial.

After the operation, which included seven repairs in the region of her abdomen, Nicole spent two and a half weeks in intensive care, vomiting frequently. By the third week she was able to go home. But, there were more complications. Nicole's small intestine became twisted, completely blocking her digestive track. Her skin turned green. The doctors recommended an immediate operation.

Nicole called people to pray for her. She asked the Lord to do a miracle.

God showed her Psalm 34:1-8, which includes the words, "I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame … O taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him." These verses went right to her heart and Nicole knew she had her miracle.

At 5 a.m. she heard a pop and her digestive system was back in business. Nicole's body continued to heal and after just seven months, the doctors reversed the colostomy.

In response to the thought, "What if they find something?" Nicole fasted and prayed.

They scheduled another test for cancer in November 2002, one year after her surgery. In response to the thought, "What if they find something?" Nicole fasted and prayed. During that time the Lord showed her a vision of an incredible, gold and silver burning bush. Then the Lord said. "Just as I was with Moses, I shall be with you." With that, declares Nicole, "I knew they wouldn't find anything." They didn't.

Looking back, Nicole declares the year 2002, the year God led her in a fight against cancer, as the most spiritually enriching year of her life. How did this year of trusting the Lord for her life, change Nicole's ministry? God has increased her love and compassion for the sick. "For healing to manifest, you need the love of Christ," she proclaims. "Unless you have been broken yourself, you cannot understand the brokenness in others."

For Nicole, this new awareness and greater passion made the pain and emotional turmoil of battling cancer worthwhile. Now, she walks in greater authority in Jesus' name, to help others walk in victory.

God has led the Brocks to offer monthly healing clinics at their offices in Burlington, Ontario. The Holy Spirit flows during this ministry and people are set free physically, emotionally and spiritually.
